The metal lathe is powered by a powerful 400 volt three-phase motor with an output power of 1,500 watts. The power transmission is reliably carried out via a two-stage double pulley, which allows the change (by turning the drive belts) between the high and low speed range. The working spindle gear running in an oil bath has nine different spindle speeds, which can be selected via two gear levers. Thus, a total of 18 speeds can be set from 65 to 1,810 rpm. The automatic longitudinal and flat feed is carried out via the pull spindle equipped with a slip coupling. During thread cutting, the feed is realized via the lead screw and the lock nut. Switching on the lead or pull spindle and the adjustment of the different feed speeds when turning or the desired pitch during thread cutting are done via four gear levers on the separate feed gear. By turning a gear lever, the direction of rotation of the guide or pull spindle can be changed independently of the direction of rotation of the lathe chuck. Thus, with this hobby lathe, among other things, left-hand thread can also be made. The lead screw is completely covered against accidental intervention, in addition, this protection prevents falling metal chips from sticking. This prevents unnecessary wear and possible damage to the lock nut. The prism bed is inductively hardened and ground. In addition, the machine bed has a removable bed bridge. As a result, the processing of turned parts with a diameter of up to approx. 450 mm. Furthermore, the PM4000 is equipped with a foot brake.
