Description
With the help of this electron beam deflection tube, elementary questions of physics and in particular atomic physics are examined. These important experiments can be carried out easily and clearly in school lessons as well as in internships at university with the Thomson tube S. Physical questions: electron beams in the electric field, in the magnetic field (by using Helmholtz coils, Helmholtz coil pair S [3B Scienific; item no.: 1000611]) as well as in the combined, electric and magnetic field; estimation of the specific charge e/m; determination of the speed of the electrons depending on the anode voltage The Thomson tube has an electron gun in an evacuated glass bulb with focusing electrode system, directly heated tungsten glow cathode and a cylindrical anode. The electron beam can be electrostatically deflected via a built-in plate capacitor and magnetically by using the Helmholtz coils S. The deflection plates hold a fluorescent shield with mm pitch that is rotated 10° against the beam axis and on which the electron beam pattern is visible. By compensating the magnetic deflection by the electrical deflection (field balancing), the specific charge e/m and the speed of the electrons can be determined. Heating: 6.3V AC; Anode Voltage UA: 2000V - 5000V DC; Anode Current: Approx. 0.1 mA at UA = 4000 V; capacitor voltage: max. 350 V; distance capacitor plates: approx. 8 mm; fluorescent shade: approx. 80mm x 80mm; Glass bulb: approx. 130 mm diameter. Total length: approx. 260 mm; service life* [operating hours]: approx. 800. The life specified here is achieved when using the recommended 3B Scientific high-voltage power supply. For power supplies with poor regulation of the heating voltage, the service life can be significantly reduced. › See more product details
