The Westland Puma HC.1 entered the service of the Royal Air Force with the No. 33 Squadron, proved to be an exceptional machine that possesses both impressive speed and agility and was able to transport 16 passengers, 12 fully equipped troops or 2 tonnes of cargo, either internally, as an underlying cargo or over a combination of beiden. Incredibly versatile and reliable helmet. icopter, the latest variant of this magnificent aircraft remains in service at the RAF today, about 54 years since the arrival of these first machines at RAF Odiham. During that time, certainly no RAF Puma ever looked as spectacular as XW231 when the No. 230 Squadron prepared them for an appearance at the 2005 NATO Tiger Meet at Balikesir Air Force Base in Turkey. Shining in their new Tiger livery it will be no surprise to learn that this aircraft was awarded the Silver Tiger Trophy Award at this prestigious event and later became one of the stars of the show this summer Royal International Air Tattoo.
